Cathedral Lantern

I find peace in my experiences with nature, and the work I create is a lens through which others may see into my experiences. I built Cathedral Lantern during a time of melancholy by studying projects which had brought me happiness in the past. Positive memories surfaced as I reviewed color studies I had made reflecting sunrises.  Cathedral Lantern was the first of a series of pieces I created, which take various techniques often used in color field paintings and translate them into three-dimensional sculptural pieces which the viewer enters.  Every pane in the piece has been stained a different hue, creating a gradient effect as you look from below. Each pane is a unique hue, a gradient traveling from each corner. I feel a simplicity juxtaposed with infinity when I reflect upon the merging of the cyan, magenta, and lemon yellow. These feelings impacted my choice of scale and necessitated direct interaction with nature. My Cathedral Lantern is my sunrise, my lens into a brighter day.
